sawylHotch tying Jacks tie is beautifully bittersweet — I remember my dad doing the same thing for me. Garcia's top is the only splash of colour and Reid's tie still isn't done up. The WS Gilbert quote from Penzance is spot on. Great shot of the team inside, being summoned away, juxtaposed with Hotch standing alone on the terrace staring into the darkness. "Where we love is home — home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts" Nicely ambiguous opening quote. Morgan, still very much in charge.
To Nashville and a creepy staker who takes single women hostage in their own homes. Morgan is not impressed by Melissa Johnson: "She had all the precautions to avoid home invasion, she just didn't use them properly." The UNSUB is feeding his victims the same last meal and playing out a fantasy. My god, Melissa Johnson's bathroom is HUGE. "Home is where you're supposed to feel safe. Nobody deserves to have that taken away" — Prentiss gives voice to one of CM's principal themes.
The actor playing Erika Silverman has nice line in horrified expressed. Plus, Silverman is a smart cookie: once she realises just how unstable the UNSUB is, she plays along, suggesting date-like activities, just to keep herself alive. I just love the way that Jayne Atkinson plays Cheif Strauss, the way she lets tiny notes of impatience undercut Strauss's best intentions. The bedroom shots intercut with the profile are nasty: romantic until the UNSUB moves Erika's hair, revealing her bruised chin and neck. Oh, Grant, you've never seen Scream, have you? And Jessica Brooks? You are the most wonderful person ever.
And Garcia cracks the case. I really like Reid's three-piece and eccentric walking stick in the park scene. Nice over-the-top raid on the UNSUB's apartment: the shoulder charge sends the door frame moulding flying. Universal garage remotes, the achilles heel of the extremely lazy. Reid and CoTW discover that their man is on the trail of a new victim. Another raid and Emily, bulletproof Emily, totally loses it with the UNSUB. "You don't survive something like that without scars." "Scars remind us where we've been. They don't have to dictate where we're going." Rossi reminds Prentiss that she can choose to stay on the path.
And we get Hotch with an Emerson quote for the close: "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us."
