"Once upon a time there was a lonely king..." who was also the Kreepy King. We're channelling Columbo today. Reid's is back in purple and Em seems to snapped out of goth mode. Edgewood? Seriously? Remember kids: hitching is dangerous. Prentiss with a Tennessee Williams quote for the open. JJ looks disgusted at the idea of victims having to claw their way out of something. Cut from photo to scene: we haven't seen that for a while. Spence's doctor says he's not allowed to climb — he is so Chaz Villette. Pre-Raphaelite postmortem posting, in keeping with the whole Arthurian schtick. CoTW really doesn't want to know about a killer on his patch. My God: they have a database of suspected highway serial killers? I like the lighter flashes from flints.

The King veers off the standard horror script. Do Garcia and Kevin have his-and-hers nerd glasses? Lot lizard? Morgan cracks the King's odd brand of chivalry. The princess is cute as a button. "Without a wife or a home, you just, you can't do it. You've got to let her go..." Now we know why all the kidnappings. Don't they teach parking at FBI school? I don't think Courtney's nail polish goes with the rest of her ensemble. Hotch nails it: the King is looking for a mother. Reid is unsubtle but it builds good tension. Ah, so that's why you've been playing coy with the body's identity. The princess has been innocently cataloging the King's murders. JJ doesn't seem to have had a lot to do, but she gets in some nice knowing looks this scene. Em coaching the princess on what to say. "Are you going to a better place?" "Yeah, we're both going to a better place, Princess" A call back to the ending of the bedtime story in the cold open.

Morgan with a Christopher Lasch quote: "Family is a haven in a heartless world." Prentiss worries about the orphaned child they've left behind, just as she did in Children of the Dark — it's her thing. And despite Morgan's belief that the good and the bad balance out, the close features a female hitcher cadging a lift at a truck stop, suggesting that Em's pessimism is closer to the mark.
