Garbanzo inflation?

Last month, my local supermarket was selling five tins of chickpeas for two pounds or 40p per tin. Last week, they were selling them for 53p a tin. This week, they're selling them for a pound a tin.

What gives? A sudden shortage in supply? A sudden surge in demand? Has the entire middle-class decided to make homemade hummus for the royal wedding? Inquiring minds want to know...
