Proms: film night
Aug. 12th, 2011 10:05 pmWhile I liked most of tonight's film music prom, one piece stood head and shoulders above the others: Walton's Henry V Suite, with Rory Kinnear on dazzling form as the narrator, blew the rest of program away. I just loved the way Kinnear brought Shakespeare's words to life: his St Crispin's Day speech was controlled and extremely intense; his opening chorus thoughtful and beautifully restrained.
(In place of Rory Kinnear, here's Derek Jacobi performing the opening chorus from Branagh's film version).
