Reger's Feste Burg Fantasia
Apr. 22nd, 2012 07:01 pmI'm never quite sure how I feel about Max Reger's music: is it a beguiling, Bachian take on Romanticism or is it conservative and deeply tedious? I'm never quite sure — I think the answer may vary with my mood. Still, it was brave of Wednesday's choral evensong from Keble College to dedicate the last 20 minutes to a huge, meditative performance of Reger's fantasy on Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott.
This isn't from Keble, but it's a rather nice performance of the same piece by Willem van Twillert (and two helpful registrants):
ETA: on balance, I've decided I rather like this piece.
