My much antcipated second-hand copy of The Virtú arrived yesterday, having made its way here from the Pacific Northwest. My initial, romantic idea that it might have been larcenously liberated from its library by a furtive thief stealing to order, as happens with Old Masters, was scuppered by the large stamp inside the cover proclaiming, "No longer property of Tacoma Public Library". With hindsight, I'm not surprised: I can't imagine a full Thomas Crown-style caper for the sake of a few pounds sterling...
