The Dunedin Consort's Messiah
Jun. 11th, 2012 08:36 pmListing to my current pile of music swag, I've been very taken with the Dunedin Consort's Messiah. It feels much lighter than my other version — Pinnock's excellent recording from 1988 — with a particularly clear choral sound and a crisp group of soloists, all of whom are extremely well suited to their material. I was particularly struck by the clarity of the three voice per part choir in All We Like Sheep, where the separating soprano and tenor lines sounded so much like sheep baaing that they made me laugh!
Delightful stuff.
