Caught in the pit
Jun. 12th, 2012 07:42 pmI seem to be having one of those days where every difficulty fixed merely seems to reveal, after a three hour delay while everything rebuilds, yet another problem — a bit like being caught in an incident pit. My take home lessons from the recent madness are:
- don't try and do things in a hurry because it won't save time in the long term
- always, always take the time to come up with a plan.
- if you follow a plan and the plan works, you can't tell whether the plan was unnecessary unless you've got a control group. And perhaps not even then.
- nullis in verba. Check, check and triple check the prep work. Especially if you haven't done it yourself. The only think worse than catching your own screw-up once you've committed yourself is catching someone else's screw-up once you've committed yourself.
