An evening of bookishness
Jul. 18th, 2012 09:15 pmConvinced that my current bout of tiredness is due to metabolic stress — I'm definately taking more out than I'm putting back in — I declared today a rest day and spent my evening finishing off Neal Asher's The Departure. Although I don't think it's Asher's best, — I found Alan Saul hard to like and didn't buy into his post-humanism in the way I did with, say, Orlandine from Line War — I still enjoyed it a bit of a guilty pleasure. I like the grimy, run-down Earth, like something out of Quake or Doom, its ultra-violence, its hero's sociopathic misanthropy and Randian individualism, the utter venality of its kleptocratic government.
