Having heard something on Farming Today about the glut of soft fruit — the torrential rain has put people off their strawberries and cream — I decided to take advantage of the one of the cheap deals at the supermarket and whip up some jam. I'd forgotten how easy jam making is when you don't have to shred vast quantities of peel and, apart from having to scrub some sugar off the base of the pan, the whole thing was largely hassle free.
