I'd begun to half suspect it might have been my fault. I thought, perhaps people were leaning towards me in conversation because I didn't speak loudly enough, that maybe I wasn't projecting enough or something, but now it looks like it might not be my fault at all. It seems to me to be far more likely that most of my regular interlocutors have fried hearing due to excessive iPod usage. That makes way more sense.
