A woodpecker pays a visit

Ornithological highlight of the day? A female great spotted woodpecker seen tucking into a slab of congealed fat in one of the trees in the garden. I know they're common, but I don't think I've seen one quite so close before. In other news, there continue to be large numbers of blue tits, great tits, a flock of long-tailed tits, starlings, blackbirds, pigeons, magpies and dunnocks, but none of them seem particularly interested in the recent addition of a nyjer seed dispenser to the bird feeder. Mater seems most disappointed: I think she was under the impression that all she had to do was to put up the dispenser and she'd find the garden overrun by finches. Sadly, I don't think there are any finches in Earlsdon...
