Much bouldering
May. 5th, 2013 07:07 pmAfter doing a few routes, I spent the afternoon trying out some of the bouldering league problems. M & I made it through the early ones without too much trouble, but we couldn't work out how to solve five. We tried watching J do it but that didn't really help: when I tried the same moves, my hand fell a good 20 cm short of the first hold. After fluking it the first time, I went back and repeated it a couple of times to work out what I'd done: flagged to keep myself balanced highest foothold and moved up the arete until I was able to stand up and get my hand on the hold. Very satisfying, even at the cost of a raw blister on my left hand.
Not one to let a minor injury stop me, I also took a stab at the next couple of problems. I made a decent attempt at six, an overhang with easy holds that seemed to require strength and speed, but I messed up my footwork three quarters of the way up and had to restart. Seven was similar to, but harder than, five with an arete and with a tricky reach for the first hold. I didn't come close to solving it but I'm going to have another go in the middle of the week.
