Email annoyances: replying to sent items

Why is it that all email clients, with the exception of mutt, fail to realise that when you're replying to a mail in your sent items folder, it shouldn't reply to the person who sent the original message — yourself — but to the recipient(s) of the original message? I'd've thought it'd be a pretty obvious thing for people to want to do...
