Musicological movie studies
May. 2nd, 2005 07:50 pmListened to today's Stage and Screen, which in honour of the release of John William's Episode III soundtrack, focused on Sci-Fi film music. It was like totally cool stuff, especially Herman's soundtrack Day the Earth Stood Still and Alex North's unused score for 2001.
It was also pretty surprising how, listening to the music without the pictures, I noticed things I'd totally not noticed before. Like the way that I finally realised that Don Davis's original Matrix soundtrack, which I must have heard a zillion times, sounds totally like the first part of John Adams's Harmonielehre, which I've also probably listened to like a gazillion times. I guess I must just have been way too distracted by all those slow-mo bullets to notice til now...
