What to watch?
Jan. 14th, 2006 11:34 pmQuestion is, should I watch another ep of Buffy on DVD or Pleasantville on the TV? I suspect I'm gonna plump for Pleasantville, cuz I have this theory that the whole film actually about being authenticity — what was it that Polonius guy said, something like, "to thine own self be true" or something — rather than being, perhaps more obviously, about racism. I mean, think about it people! The characters are like totally black and white until they accept their fundamental nature and behave in an authentic fashion, in line with who the actually are or something. Thus, Jennifer/Mary-Sue goes totally technicolor when she reads a book and David/Bud goes all super lurid when he accepts his feelings for his surrogate mother/real mother.
See? It's like way existential. It's just about the keenest film about existentialism/racism/stuff around.
