Back in Devon

A gentle breakfast during which I learnt how to make P's easy pancakes — key ingredients were eggs and bananas — before dashing off to catch the tube to Paddington. I allowed myself what I thought was plenty of time, but after changing trains at Earls Court I found I was forced to change from the District to the Circle at High Street Kensington and I arrived with minutes to spare before the Penzance train was due to depart. Once I was aboard, it was all plain sailing: the train ran fast from Reading to Exeter, cutting the journey time to a mere two hours and getting me home in time for lunch.
