Incremental improvements

Having made a rough plan to meet mid-afternoon, I waited until the appointed hour and, having not heard anything, set off by myself assuming that either R had been delayed by work or that I'd missed a message & she was waiting for me at the quay. Luckily for me it turned out to be the former — I told AM that being stood up wasn't nearly so bad as arriving massively late! — and I got in some minor bouldering while I waited.
We made a good evening of it despite the rocky start, with R edging toward the completion of a very boulder-like problem involving lots of smearing and hand-foot matches. I allowed myself to be talked into doing a particularly tricky 6a+, the one with the horizontal start I last tried six months ago when I pulled a muscle before I released that the gap was too wide to bridge by doing the splits. This time I not only avoided injury but managed to get myself vertical. I fluffed things a couple of moves later when I got my footwork wrong and found myself off-balance, but I'm now reasonably confident that it'll only require one or possibly two more attempts before I can send it cleanly.
We settled some plans for the next week or so — when we were messing about & pretending to quibble over the arrangements for something in the cafe P thought we were having a minor domestic! — but thanks to the vagaries of work patterns, it looks like I'm soloing it over the weekend...
