An attempt at encouragement
Mar. 13th, 2014 08:07 pmAnother day of climbing, this time with W — a totally climbing novice — in tow.
The first few rainbows were distinctly shaky — it's easy to forget just how nerve-wracking it is when you're first starting out — followed by a couple of 3s and, after a certain amount of cajoling, the first part of a 4. The only thing that really needed work was his abseiling technique — he just sort of sagged, so it was rather like trying to belay a sack of cement! — and it didn't help that there was enough of a weight differential that I had to take care not to allow myself to be lifted off the ground, but we managed somehow.
Not having someone to partner me, I'd assumed I wasn't going to be doing that much and contented myself with a few of the auto 6bs and a solid start on one of the 6cs, only to bump into A, who happened to be their in a three and who offered to trade off with us on some of the other routes. Sadly after yesterday's efforts and the earlier autos, I was on truly woeful form; not so much because the technique wasn't there but because my fingers just didn't have the strength to keep me in place on the more difficult routes. Still, a fun time was had and we may well do it all again in the not to distant future...
