New shoes!
Oct. 11th, 2014 04:33 pmBoth R and I are in need of new shoes. My last pair of Tenayas, having served me well over the last year, have succumbed to the harsh friction of the indoor wall and developed holes in the toes. Technically, I could wear the Scarpa Vapours I've had for about six months, but I've found that if I wear them for much more than a couple of routes, my feet a agony the next day. So, new shoes.
I decided replace my current Ra's in 6s with a pair in 6.5s. It was a surprisingly tough decision. I'm so used to wearing 6s that the squeeze feels normal, even though 6.5 felt as good lengthwise. I suppose, if I do fancy a smaller pair further down the line, I could buy myself a pair of Oasi's or Inti's — both of which I considered before opting to stay with Ra's — because I know that Tenaya shoes suit my foot shape and because it's always good to have an aggressive pair of shoes for the really tough routes.

R is in pretty much the same boat, but more so: her 5.10s are so worn at the front that they've gone through almost completely. They were so bad that someone suggested she superglue some bicycle inner tube over the holes until she was able to a new pair. I suggested that she might want to ask Father Christmas for a new pair and, should the problem become even more urgent, that I might be willing to front her an early xmas present...
