Winter Bouldering Flash Comp: Taster
Mar. 28th, 2015 11:03 pmReally exciting afternoon watching the finals of the bouldering flash competition down at the Quay. I've shot hundreds of photos but here are a few tasters.

All the problems were set out in one of the corners of the Prow, giving the spectators — as well as competitors Chris and Tom! — a fine view of proceedings. The finish of the last of the men's finals problems is on the triangular orange volume on the right above the two orange teardrops at around the same height as the fourth row of quickdraws.

Here's E in action in the finals. She'd entered in the flash comp to keep a friend company only to find herself in the final on the strength of her position in the winter league. Here she is working the third problem — by far the hardest of the afternoon's challenges — which defeated almost everyone with its combination of pinchy holds and tricky, balancy footwork.

The competition came down to the wire. Ellis sent the final problem with a very static opening...

...while Tom took a more dynamic approach, launching himself at the grey volume, sticking the dyno and using his reach to press the two orange volumes before reaching up to get two fingers on the to final volume to steady him for the finish.
