Via Alison Flood, the exciting news that Orion have set up The Murder Room — the crime equivalent of the Gollancz' SF Gateway — intended to make out of print classics available as ebooks. I've taken a quick look and it looks pretty exciting — not least because it gives me the opportunity to catch up on some of Anthony Price's Audley novels without having to scour the second had section of Amazon.

What to do on a day when the rest of the gang have gone to London and the weather is completely and utterly beastly? Kick back and relax with a bumper bill of Paul Temple and the Sullivan Mystery, that's what.

I'm sadly and tragically addicted to radio detective dramas. Strange really because, with the exception of a schoolboy affection for the works of Agatha Christie, I've never really liked crime novels. Currently, I'm hopelessly stuck on the following:

Detective Day Job Police Contact Played by
Paulo Baldi Philosophy lecturer and Franciscan priest DI Tina Mahon David Threlfall
Paul Temple Novelist Sir Graham Forbes Peter Coke
Lord Peter Wimsey Idle aristo Charles Parker Ian Carmichael
Sherlock Holmes Dectective Inspector Lestrade Clive Merrison

Fortunately, the Beeb have just exhausted their back catalog of Baldi episodes, giving me at least a ghost of a chance of cutting down my consumption.

After a tedious day spent working on a new set of accounting utilities — talk about working at the glamorous, cutting edge end of supercomputing — I got soaked by an unexpected deluge on the way to the bus stop and then when I finally got home, sodden and miserable, I found an (admittedly small) tax demand from the Inland Revenue.

Time, I think, to cheer myself up with a cup of coffee and the last episode of The Margo Mystery...
