For no terribly good reason, other than an attempt to evade ennui, I've come up with a couple of new WindowMaker themes based on a couple of Dark Horse's Buffy Season Eight covers. Here's the first one, based on Jo Chen's cover to issue 10, Anywhere but Here:

Here's the second, Jon Foster's cover art for issue 11, A Beautiful Sunset:

Foster, it may be remembered, is also the man behind last year's Precious Dragon Theme — my favourite desktop of last year.

Having found myself with time on my hands — I had to wait several hours for my data to dearchive from MASS — I started toying with a few new WindowMaker themes. For no very good reason, all are vampire related.

I based the first theme on the cover of issue one of Marvel's version of Guilty Pleasures. I'm reasonably happy with it, but it's not quite right. I'm not convinced that the icon background is right — the clip doesn't contrast enough with the background — and I don't think that menu graphic, a lightened section of the main background, really works.

The second theme is based on a the cover of issue two of Dark Horse's Ugly Little Monsters.

The third is based on issue three of Ugly Little Monsters. Again, I'm not convinced that the theme is quite right — the window titlebars don't blend with the rest of the theme terribly well — but it's ok for a first cut.

Now all I need is an excuse to dearchive more data and I can perfect them...

A day of post-Easter odds and ends. One of my colleagues was bitten by a jack russell on the way to work and had to leave early to obtain a tetanus shot. Another, on completion of lent, had ordered himself a brand new, super shiny MacPro. Delivered this morning, the device then passed the day sat enthroned on a neighbouring desk, looking for all the world like an aluminium idol to a minimalist god.

Forsaking the dubious pleasures of rabid dogs or totemic turings, I spun a new desktop theme from Jon Foster's wonderful new cover for Precious Dragon. Here's a brief glimpse:

I just love the way the hands are reaching up from behind the curtain — something I didn't notice until after I'd made it my backdrop. Talk about supremely cool.

I've managed to find time to knock up a new WindowMaker theme based on the cover of Percussion, issue 23 of Planetary. Here's a quick taster:

Sadly, the central image is copyrighted so I can't distribute it — not only is mooching bad, but it's doubly bad when you're mooching off people as talented as Warren, John and Laura — but that's not going to stop me gloating over the beauty of it...
