Although I know no one else shares my taste in music, I'm still going to recommend a new recording of settings of Thomas Hardy and Shakespeare by Finzi. It's totally worth a fiver of anyone's hard earned cash. Ok, so Finzi isn't a Messiaen or a Britten, but when it comes to setting bittersweet poetry, he's up there with the very best the last century had to offer.

I bet you like Turangalila Symphony, right? Everyone likes that. It's just so over the top. It's great.

I do indeed have the Turangalila CD. I did not realize it was
so mainstream.
I like the end of time stuff too.

Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant Jesus is also good and probably easier to get into than Catalogue D'Oiseaux. I also like the liturgical stuff - L'Ascension, La Nativite etc - but most people don't seem to get on with it. Too long and too slow, I guess.
