Alexander Solzhenitsyn, as quoted in an article about the increasing numbers of cats being abandoned:
Nowadays we don't think much of a man's love for an animal; we laugh at people who are attached to cats. But if we stop loving animals, aren't we bound to stop loving humans too?
What a bitter thought. Not only are cats suffering as a result of our general heartlessness, but it's symptomatic of a more general sense of selfishness. How horrible.
