A cat in a shark suit riding a roomba? Surely the very reason the internet was invented!

Via BoingBoing I've discovered that the internet's two primary driving forces have collided to create Barely Feral: a porn site for cats by cats. (The sleazy photo they chose to illustrate the piece is made of pure win)

My neighbours don't trust their cat. They've let it out for a walk around the front garden, but they've tethered it with a bungee. I'm surprised the cat is willing to tolerate being leashed. I remember, on holiday in La Rochelle way back when, seeing someone walking a Siamese on a lead and being told that they were the only breed of cat willing to allow themselves to be led. But on the strength of today's evidence, I think I'm going to have to discard my long held belief.

Who could have imagined that cats could be the cause of nationalistic strife?

The cats in question are the "Aphrodite giants", a beautiful, extremely large and gentle-natured creature, and the equally attractive St Helena breed. Unsurprisingly, the Cypriot Feline Society (CFS) is attempting to register the breeds as national cats, but allegations have emerged of a plot to claim the cats for the Turkish north of the country, depriving Greek Cypriots of breeds that have begun to win prizes abroad.

The CFS fears that Turkish Cypriots are keen on cross-breeding the Aphrodite and the St Helena with a Turkish cat and registering the new breeds as Turkish.

According to the BBC, scientists have discovered that cats exploit our monkey brains by purring in a way that gets us to do exactly what they want. I'm shocked. Shocked. Actually, wait, no, I'm not.

Hmm, maybe I should turn my old VCR into a cat feeder — nevermind the fact that my cat still lives with my parents — thereby freeing up more of my time to work on perfecting the flux capacitor...

Bear has found an unbelievably cute video of a group of kittens riding around on a Roomba. So cute is it, in fact, that I think it might be scientifically impossible to watch the kittens gradually falling off with out making little noises of sympathy, thereby undermining any reputation for hard-heartedness that one might have acquired over the years...

The cat, no doubt nursing insecurities from a summer of being left in the care of the neighbours, has suddenly become acutely concerned with not being noticed. Consequently, she has picked up the habit of reaching out and giving anyone in range a prod with her claws, just to remind them that she's there. I seem to be taking the brunt of this, despite my refusal to feed her her favourite food — currently pilchards in tomato sauce — and as a result, my arms look like I've spent the day wrestling with a roll of barbed wire.

Curious about the properties of cat milk — don't ask — I happened across the following, which reduced me to tears of laughter. Here's a particularly surreal snippet:

Cat milk always has a smooth finish and often has subtle seafood undertones, making cat milk a prized delicacy all across Europe.

With cat's milks robust undertones, cat milk is now joining the gourmet scene as one of the most coveted treats on the world. Let’s take a closer look at cat milk and see why cat milk is taking the world by storm.

Um, fishy undertones? In milk? I think I'll pass...

The cat has finally troubled to make herself known, being accustomed to spend her time in the company of the neighbours when the family is not in residence. She seems to have been in and out fairly regularly, if the depletion of cat food is any measure, but until today, she and I had not coincided. Now that she's back, she seems determined to spend the rest of the day drooling over me but I'm hopeful that she'll get tired before I start to saturate...

I don't have anything of interest to say today so here, via Boing Boing, is a video of some kittens wrestling:

Oh dear. Someone needs some wet wipes...

Good news everyone! It seems that owning — or being owned by — a cat reduces the risk of having a heart attack. I wonder if this means I can now get a cat on the NHS?

Which is worse? Hearing the cat retching in the night and waking up find it has thrown up on something precious, like, say, a book? Or waking up to find no signs of cat vomit whatsoever?

I reckon the latter. Because the chances are that the spew is still knocking around somewhere, just waiting for you to put your shoes on or change your bed sheets or something — something that reminds me of my own missing organic matter mystery: my lost and still not found tub of olives.

However, if the upchuck really has vanished, then perhaps the feline has become hungry in the night and, having realised that there is no way it can blag more food out of the monkey before dawn, eaten the pre-eaten catfood. What? You think they don't do that sort of thing? Sure, they might act all hoity-toity in front of the primates, but when hominid backs are turned and good nutrition is going to waste, it's a different story altogether...

This is weird, but in a good way: podcasts of cats purring.

According to the daemon test on the Golden Compass site, I'm best represented by a snow leopard. While this suits my fickle feline personality perfectly, it's somewhat grander than expected — I've always thought of my daemon as being a neat, slightly aloof, black cat — but I'm not going to complain...
