Cats and cat food
Aug. 28th, 2007 08:43 pmOne of my colleagues is attempting to feed up his local hedgehogs — apparently they're suffering because of the crappy weather. He was advised to try putting out cat food for them, but he was concerned that the neighbourhood cats would eat it before the hedgehogs got a chance to get to it.
I'm not convinced. I don't he really understands cats. I mean. Cats never eat cat food through choice. Not if there's something else — better, worse, they don't seem to care — on offer or potentially on offer. Sure, they might make a fuss when they hear a tin being opened but once the plate of food is down on the floor, they just sort of pick at it and look up, dissatisfied, as if to say, "Why are you feeding me this swill? Why can't I have salmon? You gave me salmon last night. DON'T YOU LOVE ME ANYMORE?!?"
