Real Irritation
Feb. 3rd, 2006 05:07 pmA few weeks back, I bit the bullet and downloaded RealPlayer for OS X so that I'd be able to listen to stuff from the BBC — mainly Late Junction, which is usually on way too late for me. I installed the app and everything worked pretty much as expected, except that the package had the obnoxious temerity to install itself on the desktop. Here's how I fixed it:
- moved
RealPlayer.appto the/Applicationsdirectory - went into
~/Library/Preferences - opened
com.RealNetworks.RealPlayer.plistwith the Property List Editor - found the property
RealPlayer\MainApp - changed it to point to
/Applications/RealPlayer.app - started Safari
Once I'd done all that, I was able to listen to stuff from the Beeb through Safari without having the constant visual annoyance of an application installed on my desktop. I was surprised at how easy, straight forward, user friendly and well documented the whole procedure was. Not.
